Magic Items

As the name suggests, magic items are magical, and register as such to effects that detect magic. A magic item can't be dispelled by dispel magic, although its magic is suppressed within an antimagic field. However, the effects produced by a magic item can be dispelled, and if the effect is to cast a spell, it can be countered by counterspell.
Most magic items are enchanted versions of ordinary equipment, which is specified in the "Type" column in the Magic Items Table. The "Rarity" column is a rough indication of how rare, powerful, and expensive the item is. If an item requires attunement, it will say so in the "Attunement" column.

Attunement

Some magic items can only be used by a creature that has attuned to them, forming a bond called attunement. A creature can attune to a magic item by maintaining contact with it over the course of a short rest. Once a creature attunes to an item, the creature gains a complete and intuitive understanding of how to use it. A creature can maintain up to 3 attunements at a time.
A creature can unattune to an item over the course of another short rest in contact with it. Attunement is also broken if another creature attunes to the item or the attuned creature is farther than 100 feet away from the item (or dead) for more than 24 hours.

Magic Item Prices

Most magic item vendors only keep common magic items stocked and sell them at fixed prices, with rarer items only occasionally available. See the Magic Item Price Ranges table for a general idea of how expensive magic items can be. For a consumable item such as a potion, the price should be about half of what is shown in the table.
